as a practicioner of taiji for years, i don't discredit his ability to pass qi through his body, or use if for acupuncture, to heal. i've experienced it myself. qi is widely misunderstood, but not magic . but the burning paper is a cheap magicians trick using chemicals (which i've seen my friends replicate), and has nothing to do with qi (ask any taiji or qigong master). its sad he had to use this parlor trick to give credit to his healing abilities (if in fact he had any).

Power of suggestion does remarkable things... as does hypnosis. Please show me the evidence of these scientific studies, because the scientific tests i've seen show otherwise. Why wouldn't these scientists claim the prize i mentioned?
By: kernow11. on 21 Apr 07, 16:07:02
You know that in China you can have open heart surgery with no anesthetic only acupuncture for the pain. Also there are numerous recent scientific studies that support acupuncture.
By: lennyhipp. on 20 Apr 07, 20:13:18
Exactly... who does?! Accupuncture has been proven many, many times NOT to work. There are lots of tests on the internet i can reference you to show it has never passed double-blind studies. Along with "chi", anyone who can prove accupuncture works is also available for the 1$Million prize.

i think the main problem with these skeptical people like lenny the hippy is their athiesm approch brainwashes them to never accept anything outside theire molecular world. im not saying im religous but i have seen things in my life that are to strange to happen some things are really scary to me look at mind over matter on google video u will see what i mean thats scientific proof from princeton!!!!

lenniehip. it's childish to call people names. please accept my apologies. it's also meaningless to argue on the internet and i must stop here. regards, sj4

Ok, i'm the queen of Narnia... i request that my loyal subjects climb themselves out of the "Gullible Well" called the dark ages and embrace the 21st century! ALL of these are EASILY replicated and OLD tricks. Why do you suppose that is SJ?!
By: lennyhipp. on 19 Apr 07, 01:48:08
SJ- You're delusional. I never claimed the JREF was a scientific organization... show me where i said that. You're claims of them having no credibility in the science communtity is hearsay and clearly YOUR opinion. I could show you ample proof to the contrary.
By: shawnw999. on 18 Apr 07, 04:31:33
stop being so negative serial. Why don't you see JREF as a group trying to prove the supernatural instead of debunking it? JREF isn't a scientific organization, they're a group of skeptics with a skilled magician at their head. Who better to weed out the tricksters and cons than a trickster himself?
By: SSJBartSimpson. on 18 Apr 07, 00:39:45
what a dumbass, he shocked people. and guess what. if an electric eel can do it, so can any other animal.
By: serialjunkie. on 17 Apr 07, 20:54:06
A chemist? I'm afraid it'd be more believable if you say you're the Queen of Narnia. Did you know flicking through a book on medieval alchemy and fooling around with your Walmart chemistry set doesn't make you a chemist?
By: serialjunkie. on 17 Apr 07, 20:53:23
Yes, the JREF has no credibility in the scientific community. Sometimes it is a tool for a few wanting to increase their public stature, but, never has it been considered a scientific organization, but it's no surprise you didn't know this fact. Also yes, is our conclusion that James Randi is good example of NPD.
By: lennyhipp. on 17 Apr 07, 17:15:01
Take a look at the last frame of video... see the red glow? This is NOT fire people, this is a chemical reaction. It's potassium permanganate (KMnO4) crystals mixed with glycerin (glycerol) (C3H8O3). Take it from a chemist. This trick has been done for hundreds of years... Why are these frauds ONLY capable of tricks EASILY replicated by magicians?!
By: lennyhipp. on 17 Apr 07, 17:07:04
shawn- didn't call you dumb... all that matters is you're pain free. Mind works in mysterious ways, it's more likely psychology and power of suggestion than accupuncture though. I'm not saying it CANT work, I'm saying it's never passed double blind tests. There are tons of people worldwide who swear by it.
By: lennyhipp. on 17 Apr 07, 17:03:34
serial- No credibility in science? That's disputable, and how the hell would that matter if it were true? None of them ever claimed to be a scientist. Where were you discussing NPD and James Randi, and how would that be a coincidence anyway?! I got here because some nut over on the "qigong master projecting chi energy" vid sent me here... It's just plain silly, ALL of this crap.
By: shawnw999. on 17 Apr 07, 06:20:53
It worked for me, it was the best $50 I spent. Personally I don't care how it worked, I just know that since being treated I was able to walk 50 yards without a back brace and after about 3 months was able to run the LA marathon. How gullible I am to believe in a $50 treatment that basically changed my life. I'm so dumb!
By: shawnw999. on 17 Apr 07, 06:09:49
I replied to your post but it disappeared... anyway it isn't about the money, it's about showing the world what is out there. JREF so far one of the most respected and well known skeptic organization in the world so winning the prize isn't only about the money... It'll open minds it'll force all skeptics around the world to question their beliefs. Don't you think it's worth the cost of a plane ticket?
By: serialjunkie. on 17 Apr 07, 02:10:28
Lennyhipp, by mentioning JREF you have inadvertently revealed a very doubtful channel profile indeed. It's a shame because I thought we might have a few more debates to come. Didn't you know JREF has no credibility in science? It seems more than a coincidence that only recently we were discussing NPD and the candidate was none other than James Randi. Quite rare a condition, but we were glad to conclude with an example.
By: lennyhipp. on 17 Apr 07, 00:10:12
i'll gladly look into it thanks. I've seen a dozen double blind studies testing accupuncture and they all failed. In fact, until now, I wasn't aware of any claiming to have passed. If legit, they could win a million dollar prize from the JREF.
By: serialjunkie. on 16 Apr 07, 00:55:27
Test was double-blind. Continuous real time imaging data provided by MEG scanning equipment. Professor Kathy Sykes' team include Dr Mark Lythgoe (UCL; Neurology), Dr Aziz Asghar (Hull York Medical; Neurology), Dr George Lewith (Southampton University; Academic). Acupuncturist was Dr Hugh McPherson (York University). Procedure captured by the BBC Science Department. And your academia is?
By: lennyhipp. on 15 Apr 07, 22:45:14
Shawn, If you look, there are studies debunking accupuncture and homeopathy, and neither has EVER passed sceintific double-blind testing. Homeopathy is something so absurd, i don't understand how ANYONE can actually think it works. Stupid, gullible people.
By: lennyhipp. on 15 Apr 07, 22:42:56
Sorry boxa, but that video doesn't prove anything... fooling scientists is EASY. Passing scientific testing = not so easy. The shock is a common trick done by ANY competent magician. Why are ALL your "proofs" OLD CARNY TRICKS?! Why don't these guys EVER do demonstrations that ARENT easily replicated with trickery!?
By: serialjunkie. on 15 Apr 07, 22:06:17
On acupuncture, it was already a thousand year old practice before appearing in the west as "quackery". Only last year is it SCIENTIFICALLY ACCEPTED by Professor Kathy Sykes' team as having real medical effects. And what says skeptics, who has no background in science? They discredited Kathy Sykes, who's PhD in physics and is currently the Collier Chair: Public Engagement in Science and Engineering at Bristol University. Fine example that Darwinism doesn't apply to the stupid.
By: serialjunkie. on 15 Apr 07, 21:20:27
What made you think I'm poorer than you and desperate for money? If the word "you" was meant to indicate John Chang's decisions then I can only say the problem is some people don't understand what they read, so most debate goes in circles with repeated statements over and again that only a cage of parrots will feel comfortable with.
By: shawnw999. on 15 Apr 07, 07:54:27
I personally wouldn't lump acupuncture and homeopathy with the rest of the garbage. I used to have debilitating back problems for over a decade that essentially forced me to quit my job but after a recommendation to an 80 year old acupucturist while visiting Japan, I was cured.. and by cured I mean I haven't had a single problem with my back since!
