Nearly every major innovation in computing has come out of Apple. Just about everything from the mouse to the iphone. The only thing that prevents it is the IBM PC had an open architecture and many "clones" were produced. Still IBM's architecture prevails. Microsoft succeeded through great cockups of others: Digital, IBM and Apple. In the early days Microsoft (too) portrayed IBM as the evil empire. Funny how things change.

But my point is that they didn't even release Windows until after the Macintosh was released, and Microsoft didn't have hardly any power until 1995, over 10 years after this keynote. So Steve Jobs would literally have to be a fortune teller to predict that Windows would take over the industry, because there's no way to predict that. Ridiculing Jobs for seeing IBM as the problem in 1984, not 1995, is an ignorant thing to do.

I think there needs to be a serious evaluation of faith. The gospels state very clearly that "..faith without works is dead" and the evangelicals put blind faith in their leaders, and do so thinking it is the right thing to do. An amazing thing Reagan did, was to get people to stop talking about things that matter, he did so by ascribing almost anything that matters to "politics". She also changed the English version so that is NOT directly translated from this song. This song has totally different lyrics in English because the German words rhyme, so she changed the English version to that so that the lyrics would rhyme. That version is called 99 Red Balloons so people in America would understand it better. The German version is actually talking about war, and how it all started because of a hot air balloon.

A lot of people mess up what "Luftballons" means. They say it means "Red Balloons" like the American remake. It doesn't. "Luft" means "air," as in "Luftwaffe" or "Air Force." "Rot" means "Red," which is not spoken in this song. So this song translates out to "99 Air Balloons." Just wanted to clarify, but you can still imagine the air balloons as red in color.

What the hell happened to good old full-blown comedies like this? Animal House, Porky's, etc...no real drama to get mixed up in, just plain straightforward hilarity. Loads of other comedies, mainly in today's era, try to get all philospical and crap with love and moving messages and whatnot. I mean, some of them are funny films, and some of these, such as the sequel to this, are some of my favorite movies, but come on guys! More full blown comedies like this, PLEASE? Here's hoping BHC4 delivers.

I just read that there will be a new Beverly Hills Cop sequel, with Eddie Murphy and directed by Brett Ratner. He said about the Miami Vice, that he asked Vice director Michael Mann why the original Miami Vice theme wasn't used and that Mann said he was doing something different. I think Ratner's comparison wasn't on point. Mann wasn't simply making the TV show for the big screen. It may not have made tons of money, but it's a fave of mine. The actors were all different, unlike with Beverly.

Wow - Thanks for posting this! I was luck enough to see this in '84 broadcast live and it was absolutely awesome. It still sends shivers up my spine even now - maybe not as technically brilliant as some might say but to this day I have never seen a piece of ice dance as moving as this. The chemistry in this piece is just unrivalled - absolute genius!

As a cynical Englishman I've always presumed that Torvill and Dean were somewhat overhyped and was watching this expecting to be able to find a fault. But I can't lol.
