No Airline Including Singapore Airlines would ever dare charge that kind of fare for a first class seat. They would totally be bankrupt before anyone gets a chance to lie down and take a nap. Suite tickets on SIA cost around $7000. Try checking the airlines website, which is of course more reliable then any other source ;)

If you had 1 engine on the left and 1 on the right you would have an equal amount of thrust coming from both sides. And believe me no 747 pilot would ever shut down a good engine. Period. A 747 will actually fly quite well on 3 engines. This shutting down a good engine on the other side to balance out the thrust huskerfan608 is telling you is complete nonsense.

Sorry but if you are flying a plane that can weigh more than 360 tonnes and you have an engine failure the LAST thing you would want to do is shut down a perfectly good working engine on the other side. Sure the extra thrust coming from one side would make the plane pitch and yaw to one side but cause the plane to spin? I remember a BA flight a while back. A 747 and they had an engine failure on takeoff but they still continued from America all the way to England on 3 engines.

you would shut down the engine on the other side of the plane. for example if your right inside engine shuts down you would shut down the left inside engine to balence the thrust on both sides of the plane. if you leave one side with two engines it can cause that wing to move faster and produce more lift. this can cause the plane to spin

I am a pilot for united airlines and i fly the 747 and we are tought how to handle the plane in the event that will happen. we would secure the engine to avoid fire then shut down the oppisite engine and get to the nearest airfield. That is one of the longest and most important lessons during the ATP course.

some airlines should try and use the a380 to its full passenger carrying capacity to minmize fule burn per passenger mile. Its nice to have all the luxuries onboard whilst traveling but the main purpose for aircraft is to transport passengers and we should maximize passenger carrying capacity rather than wasting space with gyms e.t.c.

The engines spin the other way on reverse thrust? Erm....No! A turbine is essentially a compressor which means it only spins one way. Reverse thrust is a means of re-directing the thrust forwards to slow the plane rather than backwards to accelerate it. On these engines a cowling slides from the back of the engine, blocking the normal path of the thrust and re-directing it forwards instead. That is what you can see on the two inner engines.

the only 2 inner engines worked on reverse thrusters becuase if you see on the video when the plane lands this thing on the 2 innner engines pull back which means the engine starts to spin the other way to slow down slowly instead of slamming on the brakes, have you ever wandered what that noise is when you land on the engines and they go really loud thats the reverse thruster

no fail at all. this is a complete success. the breaks worked till the last moment, plane came to a complete standstill. in the case of an overweight landing being necessary, the pilot has the instruction to keep rolling on the runway until firefighters are arriving at the plane in order to cool down the brakes and avoid a fire.

To answer your question about aircraft tires keep in mind there is a BIG difference from automotive and aircraft tires. Nitrogen is a dryer, more stable gas that's less prone to changes in pressure due to heat or cold. Nitrogen will not degrade the interior rubber of the tire or corrode the wheels, since it contains no oxygen or water vapor both present in the atmosphere. You should understand all aircraft tires leak nitrogen

Overweight landings are the same as a rejected takeoff I believe. The test is preformed at the maximum takeoff weight of the aircraft, at the takeoff speed (which is faster than the landing speed), and without the help of the thrust reversers. This simulates a worst case scenario in which there is a failure in the engines and the brakes must stop the aircraft without any help from the reversers. Under normal conditions the reversers account for 50% of the braking power.

Only a few of the JSFs will be VTOL, and taking off and landing vertically requires so much fuel that it's combat radius will be halved once it gets in the air... The JSF is a great plane, but has had to make major concessions in many areas. Its major positive features also lead to negative ones: maintaining stealth makes sure that it has to carry its weapons internally, so it has a small weapons load compared to conventional fighters, etc.

Boeing is better with the economy by adding winglets to their airplanes, unlike Airbus that uses wingtip fences that eat up fuel. Wrong the entire A380 or any Airbus widebody will NEVER be produced in China. First because know how transfer fears and second its very difficult to produce the A380, even Airbus is still having big problems in ramp up because its sheer complexity. Only the A320 is being produced 4 a month in China. The A320 technology is based on 80's technology so there will be only a limited technology transfer. The A350 will also get a incredible package of the latest technology's available.

yeah i know but it´s not like the first time he piloting a plane i´m sure he was a 747 pilot before or a a340 pilot for him it should be piece of cake pilot a plane a little bigger beside the fact that the pilot who are changing airplanes had to do ground school especific for the plane he wants to pilot just a opinion

It is also creating the possibility of 700+ people getting to where they want to go and the plane will create less pollution. Anyway. A crash it incledibly unlikely especialy with the A380 because there are only 3 of them (I think) in service. None of the A380's in service are carrying anywhere near 700 passengers.

ryanauburn. You missed the point. Yes, aerospace engineering is a specialized field, with high standards to maintain and tight quality control. What I meant was, the job itself, working in a factory building planes, soon becomes very 'normal'. I've done it for over ten years and I like my job but, like most other jobs, it is sometimes boring. Like I said before, it's not as exciting as being a fighter pilot or an astronaut.

Now thats an odd way of doing statistics. One out of a thousand A380 crashed calculates to be the same death rate as one out of a thousand 767 or for that matter one out of a thousand cars. Basic math sometimes helps. And here its even a matter of life and death :-). Of course: Carrying more passengers risks more lifes. No matter if you do it by using bigger planes or more planes. So are you proposing to deny some passengers passage to safe their lives???

Dinimess2k7. The UK has a large aircraft industry and the a380's wings are indeed designed and built here. It's not that hard to belive that azzaroz's uncle played a part in designing it's wings, although he obviously didn't do it all by himself. I've never worked on the a380 myself but I work with people who have. It's really not that special - it's hardly like being an astronaut or fighter pilot! It's just like any other factory job.

It is most likely that you flew onboard a 747-400 which made it's first flight in 1988 and what the 747 is capable of is still amazing! Besides don't forget that when the 747 rolled out it was about 3,5 times bigger than everything existing now with the Airbus A380, she only is about a half time bigger than the largest civil airplane. The 747 was much more of an achievment to me!

A seat on a plane is a seat on a plane. Makes no difference if it's an A380, 747 or 737. When you're sitting in your economy seat do you know or care how old the plane is? Now if you're comparing first class to economy that's different. BTW the A380 is not a pretty plane to look at.

Hey I'm British but I gotta admit..I still prefer the 747. It's gonna take up to my first flight in an A380 to change my mind. I judge good aircraft on my own personal experience. I've flown on the 747 a dozen times and each was absolute heaven. I was gonna wait for BA to have their A380's delivered but since that wont happen till about 2012, I'm gonna have to make an excuse to visit Singapore or Dubai, lol. So at the moment, for me...the 747 is still number 1.

This is an impressive looking aircraft no doubt. The problem with it is this. It was built and designed with government subsidies and so basically the project is little more than a Socialist job program first, and a competative aircraft a distant second. It sould come as no suprise that this thing is two years behind schedule and was built for an almost non-existant market.
