Tim - I spent a week in Frisco when I was married the first time, my wife's sister was married to a Navy guy at Alemeda Naval Station. I had a 66 Chevy station wagon then, ended up down Lombard accidentally (Navy guy sent me down it to be funny), left some paint on one of the walls on Lombard with my rear corner. Solids is the word. What you're describing isn't *solid* for long in a septic tank. :-> Examples of solids are: sand, soil, tiny bits of plastic, toothpaste caps, army men, metal, anything that can't be broken down by water or bacteria that makes it down into the septic tank.

Cindy, Thanks! In all soil there are millions of *other* bacteria. These feast on the bacteria and pathogens that are in the clear waste water that finally makes it to the leach field. It's the same process that takes animal droppings in the forest and purifies that waste so the water deep in the water table isn't contaminated.

A simple phone call to a septic service may convince him. Get two quotes: 1. Pump existing system 2. Pump existing system and install a new leach field. If you fail to do #1 on a periodic basis, you *will* eventually do #2. Every septic professional will agree on that.

I think you should have it pumped. Bacteria can't digest mud, sand, and any other inorganic thing sent down the pipes. Experts will tell you that for long life and a clean leach field, you must have the tank pumped. Remember that the solids *decrease* the effective volume of water in the tank.

I should send you photo's of mine, we've got a 1000 gallon pump chamber off the septic tank to get the grey water out to the front field. PS: The septic system in my father's house was installed in 1967 and has never had the tank pumped. They digest real well if you can develop a healthy colony.

What a pain. I am glad the bathrooms at home dont have that water box. They are operated by push buttons in the wall. So you can drink that water, cook with it, brush your teeth, wash your face...why dont you install a lil tap in the bottom, you would'nt have to go to the kitchen at night, when you'r thirsty.

You see I sell wood to carpenters and to some furniture factories in my town, we just started at this and the thing is that my needs by the moment are how to cut 1 inch thick and 16 feet long tables by the half in a safe way.....I use a 2 1/8 HP I guess that is horse power craftsman circular saw it says 10amps and 7 1/4". Tim - do you take show requests? I have a masterbathroom that is partially complete. My contractor left town. I am pretty handy. I just need some info on how to pour a wet bed (note: the framed out shower area doesnt seem level to me). Secondly, the bathtub (jacuzzi) is sitting in a framed out box; with wiring underneath; but not attached. Does the tub usually get attached to the wood frame? I can send pictures if you would like. You didn't say what type of noise..... whistling, gurgling, etc. Contact Bradford White and get the installation instructions. Read them. See if the heater was installed correctly. It could be too small of pipe was used.

I try to staple about 6 inches from the box, just so the inspector doesn't have to second guess. Now this is the way to explain it, took me eons to actually figure out that it was a special switch between a set of 3 ways. As far as 120v killing someone, it's current and the path it takes. Stand in water and grab a live line - current passes from your arm to your feet and your heart is in between. Sit in a tub and toss in a radio - the water you are in conducts to your body and grounds to the plumbing and passes thru your heart. Doesnt take much voltage (pressure) but rather current (flow)

1001rants, what? Neutral and Ground are not the same. Neutral is generally the white wire and neutral is generally bare. Also, 120v can kill you. Of course people say amperage is what kills, BUT amperage is dependent on voltage. Since your body's resistance is variable due to diet, and other factors, 12v (yes 12) can kill you with a direct path to the heart under low resistance. In theory there is such thing as unlimited amperage under zero resistance.

Tim - Please do not advise your listeners to use plumbers putty on that granite counter top. Plumber's putty is oil based and will cause a horrible discoloration on your granite. Use a silicone sealant to protect the counter top.

If it's the micromesh one where the mesh is in a vinyl structure the answer is No. I had all sorts of evidence that the vinyl and the mesh didn't play well together. Tim, Have you ever tested the Leaffilter system? It doesn't go under the roof shigles however it still pitches away from the house within the gutter and has the same stainless micro-mesh. I have talked to many people that have had under roof shingle type gutter covers installed, and many of them said they have problems in winter with water/ice building up breaking roof shingles and water penetration into the house.

I think Tim does a fine job, his test may not be confined to laboratory perfection but you can see by the video that there was a bunch of crap in the test subject. If you install something to keep you from cleaning the gutters and they say just get up there and shake it out, I would bet it's easier just to clean the gutters. Very specific testing methods are sometimes second to real world testing. I'd love to have Tim test my products, good or bad.

I think I can speak to that. I talked with the owner of Gutter Glove after I taped the video. At that time, I am quite sure, it was in their installation instructions to install it like they did at my house. Once he discovered how the Mastershield was installed, he said he would come back and reinstall his product so it was sloped to match my roof pitch. So my guess is that GG is playing catchup baseball and altering their methods to match what Masteshield had already been doing.

I was just curious as to the GutterGlove install. I was confused as to why they installed the product on your house, flat and not with the pitch of the roof? I can tell you that in my experience in all the years of my testing that most, if not all, cause a more rapid buildup of snow, ice and subsequently ice dams. No matter if you have gutter guards or not, you should absolutely have ice-dam membranes at the roof eaves to prevent the leaks that will happen. Remember, Mother Nature bats last.

This argument does absolutely nothing to negate the possibility of various wind conditions affecting the different results, irrespective of manufacturer approval. In fact, the Gutter Guard was very clean over most of its length. It was only in a few spots that it had junk on it. It did what Gutter Guard said it would do: keep junk out of the gutter and keep them running. You're simply going to get a different top cleaning effect depending on the wind conditions.

Ah! Great point, but no cigar. Once again, if you read all the comments, you will discover the manufacturers approved the location of the install and the conditions. Furthermore, if you did put on one brand in one spot and then year after year you put a different brand on the same spot you would have a different set of variables. Perhaps not as much blossom production, not as many storms, not as much wind, etc. There is NO perfect test. If you feel there is, write the test specifications.

From my comment just above or below this one, you can see that Gutter Glove was the other micro-mesh product tested. Both slide under the shingles. Both appear to be easy to install. I watch both installations. The video says it all. Both kept debris out of the gutter, but only one was debris free. I don't know what else to tell you. This test is not objective at all. You test three different systems under different conditions including installation angle, location where we cannot see the tree cover, straight gutter lengths for some and angled configurations for others. Hardly objective. You also proclaim one an utter failure in one breath and then state that water still flows through to the gutter? By definition that is not a failure. This subjective "test" should be done again in a way that keeps the conditions equal.

Thanks for your video. Are you still planning to update the video any time soon? I'm about to order the gutter brushes based on cost and ease of installation as an alternative to doing nothing and having to blow out my gutters with a leaf blower four times a year.

If a franchise is one of those types that MUST have your wife present, and you don't want to deal with that type of outfit, you are out of luck, because the company won't let anyone else in on their territory. Mastershield is one of those types of companies. On the other hand, a homeowner can purchase Leaf Relief or Gutter Glove and install it himself, and happily avoid getting "clogged" by all that debris and waste of time.

Nothing got into the gutter but some debris is stuck on top. We are going to tape the follow up video late this week as soon as the temps drop below the blistering 90 F. It is way too hot now to be up there taping the video. I was also waiting for some vicious storms to see if the wind and heavy rain would wash the debris from the guard. Hold off on buying for just two more weeks.

I don't use one for that purpose. I've tried to do it on many occasions in the winter at the self-clean car washes and the tools *never* get the car clean. There's always a thin layer of dirt it can't remove. If you want a clean car, you need to hand wash it. If you disagree and are a pressure-washer by trade, bring your machine to my office and we'll do a video of you and I washing my car. I'm curious as to why you asked this question.

Something tells me the gas ones are far more expensive to operate. They also might cause far more pollution per gallon of water pushed. Gas ones are able to operate just about anywhere where the electric ones can go only as far as you have reliable 115 volts.

Don't tell your competition, but pressure is not actually needed beyond 3,000psi. Its the gallons per minute you need (gpm). Air doesn't clean, water does. (5gpm for surface cleaners works nice). Its also better for rinsing. Beyond 3000psi your hoses start breaking more, things break down faster, have to get special hoses, new tips, etc.

Tips: Hold the sprayer trigger WHILE you turn off the machine, that relieves back pressure and the pump lasts longer.. Its a loaded gun until you do, very dangerous. Ear muffs are more dangerous than the noise. You can't hear people yelling at you, cars coming etc. Do so carefully. Technically you can change the tip as it runs, but it can be dangerous. Tip changing after he shut down the machine in the video is worse- because the gun is still pressurized and you may not know it. Always check!
