You are very right. The professionals point the knife towards them. But until you've mastered the technique, it's much safer to point it away -- or better yet, use a scissors. I found it very hard to perfect the knife technique, and was told using a sharp scissors works just as well. -Meghan

I agree with your personal taste when it comes to the choice of colors.. But, the good flower decorators often point the knife towards themself since this gives the best cut when it`s comes to flowers. And besides, knife is the best tool to use because it`s sharper then a scissor and if you want your bouquet to last it`s important to maintain the flowers "water-straw" by being careful not to "crush" it...

Nice video to demonstrate the basics of floral arrangements. 1) You can add a little bit of bleach to clean the waters, but you need clean water so the flowers will last longer. 2)Cut the stems underwater ( I also heard under running water works as well). 3) If using a knife (instead of scissors) pull the flower away from you. The knife hand stays still for safety and accuracy. Thank you for sharing.

Jaysato, Thanks so much! Wooden hangers work just as well. The only reason clear ones are suggested is because they don't block the colors of the clothes, which allows you to easily scan what you have. But you're not alone, many people prefer the beauty of wood hangers. Thanks again! Meghan

Thank you. It's been about six months since I cleaned out my closet for the video, and it still looks the same. I can't believe it. And trust me, I'm not a naturally neat person. Crystal hangers snag and tear gentle fabrics, break, crack, and do terrible things. Wood is the way to go. It's really easy to put hair elastics over to hold spaghetti straps.

I see no advantage to concrete over granite. If it is about the same price as granite, why not get granite? Concrete's appeal is that it is strong and affordable way to construct structure. But in the case of countertops, it is neither stronger nor cheaper than granite.

Concrete is heavy, but not so heavy it will crush your countertops. But honestly, it depends on who you go to. I would ask each concrete installer how they install the concrete countertops and deal with concrete's weight.

It completely depends on who you go to. Each company will have a different price per square foot. Typically, concrete countertops will be a bit pricey, but not much more than granite. Some granite countertops can cost more than concrete. My best advice would be to shop around your area.

The Illuma-lid he showed is great for burning your candles evenly. I've always had a problem with that but thankfully Yankee Candle came up with a cure for me! I own everything YC, they're just wonderful! I even use the Illuma-lids on my smaller jars. Works great! When your candle burns down to far to light it, just stick it on a warmer! Votives never give off enough scent for me. I cut them to fit inside my empty 3.7oz jars and put the jar on a warmer in my bathroom. YUM!

I actually work at a Yankee Candle store, and to smell pillar candles, votives, or basically anything else that does not come in a jar, you should pick them up and smell the bottom of them. This is because the candle is sitting on the fragrance in these styles of candle, so it makes it much easier to pick up on the scent when you smell the bottom of it.

I know. That's a problem. Those candles are just hard to smell because the scent of the candle goes out into the air instead of being trapped in the lid of a jar. My suggestion would be to see if the store has the same scent in a jar version to test it out. If not, I guess we're all back to sticking our nose in the candle to get as much of a scent as possible.

I like this information. Like to burn for longer periods. I always wondered why the pools were not the circumference of the candle. A good tip may be how to distinguish between a good candle and a cheap one. Or what kinds have the longest running scent? Fruity or flower (lavender) for example.

You're right it was Meghan but she's much better now. Shows how food can be an enemy. On our 18th anniversary I had a little wheat in a chocolate cake at the restaurant and got home with a bad headache but didn't care. Eighteen years was an accomplishment and the cake was delicious.

Meg, I am allergic to wheat (horrible headaches), dairy (bad nose allergies) and it is a horrible pain to eat at restaurants, etc. I feel for you. I have a friend who for a time was almost allergic to everything but air.

That's a good point. I've honestly never thought about it before. Typically, shoes are stored on shelves below clothes. I've never seen them put above. But regardless, if shoes are very dirty -- muddy or wet -- they should be washed before putting back in the closet not only to keep your closet clean but to keep your shoes in good condition.

The green marble shown in this video is actually from Vermont and is called Verde Antique. The marble is so hard Robert actually scratched a antique verde marble column to prove it. I cringed, but quickly saw it didn't leave a scratch. It's truly amazing. --Meghan

it does not! it has been proven by the EPA! Radon is coming mostly from basements, soil, even some foods like potato in your house. Granite does emit but very very small percentage, not harmful!

I have a Granite Fabrication facility we have more than 300 slabs inside in our storage we do have the Radon air test equipment. Our air quality is the same with any normal house or any other commercial warehouse. EPA sets the alarm above 4pCi/L and our radon test reads 1.2 to 1.8 pCi/L long or short term. To you have 300 slabs in your house? No! Granite is one of the best products for Kitchen counter tops. If you concern about granite use Quartz

i know alot about stone being the son of a father who owns a company that specializes in stone countertops. granite is by far a better investment because marble is softer and can stain easier than granite. Granite is actually a stone that is much older whereas marble is a younger stone. Being that granite is older, it is much durable and less pourous. but still you need a sealant for both products.
