The Goodlife,suffice it to say,was and continues to be an infinite source of inspiration for myself,personally.Yet there seems to be this weired pathology amongst many from that scene as well as those that began to subsequently follow it:that every innovation in hip hop,from art to economics is somehow a direct byproduct of that scene. Anyone that grew up on hip hop in the late 80's & early 90's knows all to well the innovative potency of hip hop's creativity in general--in all regions.

I love both crews,but I don't by that story.LONS came out before anyone on the east coast had even heard of FF;by that time their stylistic hallmarks were already established. Just because an emcee mines a style doesn't make him a biter,as history has shown us time & again:LA Sunshine of The Treacherous 3 sounded like CVE,10 yrs before the Goodlife!Gee Man of Crash Crew sounded like DK Toon back in the early 80's,& Mike C of The Fearless 4 had Mikah's nasal-style back in the early 80's as well.

I wasn't comparing the two. Besides, it depends on w you are talking about. Obviously FF owns L.O.N.S. in some aspects, off the top improv. But T.I.M.E.(1993) by Leaders is better that Inner City, or any other FF album, in my opinion. But like I said, I wasn't comparing the two. Both groups were phenomenal and ground breaking pioneers in style.

I just met Aceyalone in Feb!...sorry, had to brag, just so exciting for me. Saw the premiere of a film called "This is the Life" about the Good Life cafe...so much talent in all those groups - decent film, nice to see all of the archive footage. Anyway, FF is one of the most talented groups ever - extending far beyond hip-hip...the emcees, this album, this song...just amazing

"To Whom it May Concern" had a LOT of racial remarks. I think they aren't really racist, just against the "man" holding them down. All of the artists work with white people at some stage or another. It is a bit ironic to see him do music vids with white people knowing he's said "The true devil is the Cracker" in the 1991 album. Maybe the racist thing was a phase? I haven't heard anything racist from Aceyalone since FF died.

yeah but the thing is, while I do agree with you on "devil" meaning an evil deceiver (I think it sounds a lot better when you use it in that context) it's a well-known fact that in black culture, the term "devil" insinuates a white person (I think Malcolm X popularized the term "white devil") so I think when people hear that, they might get a little confused... I didn't know about Cesare Borgia though, thanks for mentioning that. very interesting.

I've done the same thing. I grew up between the Baptist and AME Church. Since I've been in my late teens and early twenties, I've been able to identify w/COGIC. Now that I'm 30, I feel that I'm getting ready to make that transition. I have also worked at a Methodist church and have learned to worship in all types of settings. (Methodist are normally quite and reserved. lol) When it all is over, we must worship Him in spirit and truth however we choose to do it. (cry, run, jump or shout.)

Great comment! Growing up, I was Baptist, but when I becane an adult, I made it a point to visit as many different denominations as I could. The praise was different in every church, but it was all good!!! I'm COGIC now, but I do miss that good old Baptist shoutin'sometimes:)

This was some true old school church! It too reminds me of the days growing up in church as a child. I love it!!! I don't see what the big fuss was about. Back in the day there was a difference in "shoutin'" among denominations. In the Baptist church, it was more of an empotional thing. That's why they called it "getting happy". In the sanctified church (COGIC or Pentecostal), when you were in the spirit you danced. The same thing just different forms of expression.
