Wow... what a memory this brings forth! My very first experience with David Gilmour and then onto more Floyd. I haven't heard this song in over 20 years and had forgotten about it... thanks for bringing back a wonderful memory. I love Roger... but David will always be my favorite. :)

Eric was very gifted technically, it's undeniable. But I find him a bit boring - too predictable maybe, like mozart or something. IMHO gilmour and hendrix had a lot more feeling and soul. I get more of a kick listening to them. They 2 were the greatest guitarist of the 20th century. In other words, Gilmour is just a fk'n genius. by the way. this is the best song on the LP, and there really IS no way out of here. Very 1970's

YOU ARE FAILLLL!!!!! Eric Clapton is 1 of the most incredible guitar players ever! & better voice too! I bet you all don't heard his LONG GUITAR SOLO in Cream of "Spoonful" & his riffs are incredible, this guitarist is my favorite rock guitarist after Ritchie Blackmore! But somehow i don't like Pink Floyd, i've listen to all their discography + gilmour solo & it is isn't my style! Eric Clapton is Amazing, for me David Gilmour is overrated & Pink Floyd!

But what is "Better" ? Gilmour plays with so much feeling, and his tone is incredible - surely those are the two main factors. What to you is "Better"?...someone who can play faster? I would much prefer to listen to someone who can play several notes with feeling and a good tone than someone who can play eight-hundred notes a second! Gilmour is a great player - period! :-)

Honestly, I only found out about Rick's death a few days ago, but it didn't make the impact of the news any less. To me, Rick Wright was the central sound of Pink Floyd. His style was dark yet elegant, and his chord progressions were pioneering. He was one of my biggest influences in music and I feel it is a great loss. I know he's jamming with Syd in that great gig in the sky.

Time to take it down a few notches. Just think of the size of Gilmours balls, to even think of trying to pull this one off. This is the same man who will do Bizet, then turn around and do a song from "Chity-Chity-Bang-Bang". Why? Because Gilmour can recognize a good song when he sees one, and will perform them all with an understated elegance that seems to be the hallmark of the Worlds greatest artists.

If you listen to his technique it´s got very little to do with opera and he strains a lot for every high note and he does glissandos instead of legato between the notes. but I want compare his rendition of this aria with anyone else's because I think he knows that he is no opera singer but I bet you that he listens to opera because this aria ain´t as easy to get to as the Nessun dormas or la donna mobiles.so I think it proves he´s got good taste in music.

haha seems we talk along the same lines! Page is not far away either, there are a quite a few that make the top with a unique sound, but I have to say that The Edge is my all-time favourite as well. Always been a U2 fan. And I have to say that its a bit about the story and the person as well.. I mean who wouldnt like The Edge? modest, learned to play all alone and came up with a very own sound that is not about skill, but sound. Not about long solo's, but about making it sound good. admiration

There are certain guitar players who simply own their own spectrum of sound. It's not about how great one is with his fingering or how difficult he plays. It's about the beauty of the sound. Gilmour is one of those who owns part of the sound spectrum (others include Jimmy Page, The Edge, Elliot Randall, Kirk Hammett, Jeff Beck, etc. - there are many). But, Gilmour is clearly among the great legends.

This is one of my favorite Floyd songs & I've watched the DVD of this concert numerous times but from the first time I watched it till even now, I still think "Father Time" ruined it!! For one he is SO incredibly outa tune but he doesn't even read the lyrics which I may add are right in front of him.. correctly. As usual Gilmour is AMAZING! but the version with Bob Geldof reading the lyrics is 100% better then this!

A silicon Fuzz Face and a Binson Echorec tape delay. Gilmour doesn't use reverb, the delay gives him that big sound. Also, the Big Muff wasn't around at this time and he didn't use a compressor until like 1974 (MXR Dyna Comp).

One of my favorite songs! I play guitar and have seen Pink Floyd live from the front row a few times and met the band back stage. The best time was on 9-22-72 at the Hollywood bowl, they did Dark Side of the Moon in quadraphonic sound, before the album was released. Unreal show! It was the last time the Hollywood Bowl had a Concert in quadraphonic! I saw Australian Pink Floyd 11-18-05 at the Wilshire Theatre from the front row, they were GREAT! Go see them if you get the chance. RIP Syd.
