Jeff basically did write Hallelujah. He re-wrote the song. You wouldn't recognize it without the lyrics. Hallelujah isn't nearly his best work. Dream Brother, What Will You Say, Grace, Mojo Pin, etc...are way better tunes.

They took our food, woke us late at night and thrown out our clothes from our dormitory. It hurt that when I complaint to my teachers they didn't listen and pretend nothing happen. that is how its done in alot of African American southern churches the elder women of the church get down on the "Mourning Bench" and cry out to God in a intimate way thats the music i grew up on i love it, it lets u take the song and just get personal with God through all your pain and your hardships you can just cry out to him sometimes words arent even sung some times u just groan the melody because of the power and presence of God u cant even express how u feel and just have to groan

This is a great song..The 1st time i heard this song was in our chapel service at school..one of the teachers sang this song while the kids were doing a lil skit..There was an older boy acting as jesus and the kids had chains of sins on them and as she was singing this song they would go up to him and he would take their chains off..And when i heard then I had so many goose bumbs..she could sing anyway..I think it was the skit that got me though..LOVE THE SONG!! great job

Your problem is in your hearing, not her singing. If you knew Judy Collin's story, you'd know this song is deeply personal for her -- an instrumental part of her escape from the oblivion of alcoholism. Any insincerity is projected by you onto her. Regarding her singing: her voice is unique, clear as a bell, and haunting.

to be honest she's not that great. without the choir it really wouldn't be very good. no conviction in her singing at all, or her facial expressions, and she can't keep time. her voice sounds nice, but thats all. just nice, and unfortunately insincere. there are many better versions on youtube. the choir were amazing though.

what you think it has, and has nothing to do with following the god of western people. While on the trail of tears, the Cherokee could not always give a proper burial. And therefor they made an own translation, an own version of this song, to sing in honour of those who died. And that is why still many of the Cherokee and Natives sing this song. This is a song of honour for them. And as for the gods remark, we have the gods, the earth and sky. Don't assume I have no knowledge on my own gods.

I live in the Netherlands and none of my relatives were involved even slightly with the murder of natives. I will not lose, my soul is in every sense free of hate. Although I don't live on a reservation, I can offer my opinion. Hailing from three tribes(Cherokee,Blackfoot, Sioux) I can confidently say the following. So long as you treat native americans with respect, you will recieve it in return. Most tribes don't see your ancestors as enimies. Considering that they had nothing to do with our slaughter, it makes sense. Historically Canada treated the natives MUCH better than the U.S. The "Indian Agent" is there to make sure the indians don't thrive.

"moving on" is just a nicer way to say "turning your back on" I can and never will move on, not until my ancestors are avenged. That being said, I was more offended by the blaspheming by those who sang it, than i was about it being in existance. There are too many descandants of the natives that have turned their back on their culture. I have done no such thing, and the Gods have rewarded me for it. Of course the reward was preceded by an enormous amout of pain, but hey, nothing's free.

Nope not a princess, a cheif actually. His name translated to "under the sun" or something akin. And you are mistaken. There is still hatred for what happened. Death is not, nor has ever been the end. The native americans who were killed by christianity were never allowed to enter the afterlife. Three generations later my father met a half blackfoot woman, my mother. I have no idea why my gradmother moved out here, but she did, and here i am.

As I'm italian I would only add that, as such, my nation was shamefully one of the first to give such bad and horrible examples when they did just about the same throughout Europe and the Mediterranean. Look at what the Romans did at Carthage, in France, and anywhere they settled down.
