actually a large percentage of old electronics are recycled at these third world countries to recover the precious metals contained in the electronics. the simple fact is that economically solar hydrogen is unfeasible at a large commercial scale due to the scientific, engineering and technical difficulties that must be solved. it is roughly 50 to 100 years away from being practical at today's level of technology.

This is true but the computer your pontificating on and many of the electronic gadgets already in existence use the same toxic processes. The hazardous waste along with millions of tons of old electronics are sent to third world sweat shops and "waste disposal" sites. This would not work for every man and women on this planet, mostly everyone are crammed into cubicles (aka skyrises & apartments). So where are they going to put all the solar panels and hydrogen tanks for themselves. lol. But you can start small. Even a 60W solar PV panel with a small battery bank (1 or 2 batteries) and an charge controller and inverter. You could run the lights your in house and other small stuff. I have my own small setup in my house like this. It works good.

First law of thermodynamics: No perpetual motion machines. It takes energy to break water into its constituents, and because we live in the real world we can never get all that energy back through combustion. So by running this off the alternator, you're just putting more load on the engine which the hydrogen can't make up. Simple terms: You lose MORE power than without it. When you install a new battery, it is already charged, otherwise the car won't start! Somehow you have to store some Hydrogen in a chamber for every time you start the car (it does start using Hydrogen only according to Mythbusters. I think the key challenge would be how to store the Hydrogen and retrieve it, and how to produce it efficiently for the car. Adding starch might help according to recent research in Berkely.

KRex09 it's not short-circuiting the battery. it is however creating a circuit for the production of oxygen and hydrogen via electrolysis. no it will not hurt your system if you know what you are doing. volts*amps=watts so always remember your equations when sucking power out of your system. I am sure many guys think that the 1000W sub-woofer in the back of their car doesn't take any energy to run either! every single electrical system is robbing power from your drive-train. no free lunch!

of course you can recharge the battery; so where will you get the energy for that? at the moment you recharge a battery in car/truck from burning fuel (gas/diesel) and sending some of the energy to the alternator which acts like an electric motor in reverse; ie takes power out of the system. a very fine balance between fuel efficiency and electrolysis is possible but not the claims of most. Key is effecting greater fuel oxidation in combustion process; hydrogen is proven to work when injected.

Camp by a lake ;) I agree, it might not be feasible, but I also believe big oil companies have something to do with it. Man, Ford makes a diesel powered Car that get 65mpg and never market it in the US? This sounds suspicious. There are European cars such as the BMW diesel that are not imported to the US (gets about 50mpg!).

Your analogy needs alot of work to make it feasible! study some basic thermodynamic principles about the process of electrolysis. Simple: buy a gasoline powered generator, build an electrolysis unit and make the gen run on the HHO produced... can't, no-one has or will. The battery producing the electricity to create the HHO will be your "fuel" as hydrogen is just carrier of the stored energy of battery... make sense?

Go study thermodynamic principles. Hybrid technology can work because it enhances primary fuel mix. Normal water is H2O, Heavy water is either with deuterium (D2O) or less commonly with Tritium (T2O). Hydrogen is the only element with special names for its isotopes, so it is possible to show the isotopes which make the "heavy" water. The D (Deuterium) is a hydrogen atom with one neutron and the T (Tritium) is a hydrogen atom with 2 neutrons. H3O+ is simply another way of saying an acid in water.

Pardon the criticisms. Electrical connections on every cell wastes energy. Use the fluid to carry the current, that is what it is there for. Lye for load in distilled water, not to much or you get to many amps. Your plates are far to large. They make the system work slowly. Small plates, say the size of a business card or smaller. One cell for every volt you put into the system. 7 plates for 12 volts makes 6 cells in series. no wires on any middle plates

Sory gatomas, but you are definitly wrong. Actually, the molecule of H doesn't exists alone. It must combine with another H (H2), and the same for O (O2), so they are in a stable state. Where this experience is dangerous is that there is no flame arrestor, preventing any possible backfire when H2 is ignited.

This is dangerous, having hydrogen and oxygen on the same container, on the experiment I'm familiar with there were two columns connected and each column had one electrode, on one column you would get the hydrogen and on the other the oxygen, hydrogen burns very violently, I don't know what is the flash point but I would feel sorry for this guy if one molecule of H decided to join with a molocule of O, the others would follow and CABOOM!

As a fuel for an internal combustion engine it seems to be worth the amount of energy put in. Maybe we'll have to plug our water powered cars in over night to convert water to a tank of fuel, but after that a regular car battery could recharge as the car drives and continue the process. I would be interested in seeing a copy of your findings. We know how many liters of hydrogen and oxygen we get from a liter of water, but I have never done the calculations for gasoline and what vapor contents would result. I would imagine a lot of that would depend on what compounds were used in making the gasoline as it changes depending on what additives are used at the time.

The real problem with vehicles like the BMW is that they must rely on the carnot cycle. They are inherently inefficient. Electric motors are much more efficient than internal combustion engines. Also, batteries are quite efficient. Why not go with electric cars. Hydrogen is really not that efficient for many reasons. Electrolysis is horribly inefficient. It yields a lot of heat to separate hydrogen and oxygen from water. Fuel cells are much more promising. However, they are vy expensive

Well, I'm not sure CDMA/GSM is a good example for your case. CDMA should have been stillborn. It was a huge waste of money rolling out that parallel network. GSM was the world standard, and CDMA only got a foothold in the US for nationalistic reasons. The rolling out of a hydrogen refilling network is THE hurdle preventing acceptance. It's the chicken and egg problem. Splitting the technology now will make it worse. CH4 reformation is controlled so I presume C02 is captured and geosequestered.

It's difficult to have competing technologies in some cases. But in other cases, it serves to segment the market. For example in the cellular industry Verizon and Sprint use CDMA and AT&T and T-Mobile use GSM. The rest are small carriers or simply MVNO's, or re-branding of the same service. In the same way, certain brands of cars would be limited to certain hydrogen suppliers. What bothers me the most about H2 is how oil companies make it from methane (natural gas): CH4 + H2O = 3H2 + CO2

LNG and propane are carried in tanks with about 100 psi. However, you need an extremely high pressure tank, for transporting H2 (also in your car). As such, these tanks are far more dangerous than propane or LNG tanks, or even carrying scuba tanks which have about 3500 psi. Breaking the valve on a scuba tank can unleash a shooting missile. That's very interesting. Got a link to the full vid, or at least the name of the documentary? I wouldn't have thought Iceland would be so good with solar. Perhaps they use that whenever they can, and supplement it from the grid, which is geothermal, anyway. It's time for solar panels on every house, and a hydrogen production facility and compressor tanks setup in every home garage, and regular gas stations. Any excess solar energy can be fed back into the system for credits!

You are only half joking I think because. Iceland was first called snowland because all they could see first was snow. And where they settle first in in Greenland is in east part and on a very small area there there used to be a green place. So they both got their names from a relatively small areas. Or isolated circumstances. But I like better the story of the vikings that became farmers in Iceland calling it those names to divert other viking attackers to Greenland.

I agree that the krona is dead(At he moment at least), but Iceland has always been a fishing economy not a financial economy and it will recover within 10 years or less. Read the fine print, buddy: I'm NOT comparing VW's to this car. I'm just saying that the parent company already has a share in the market(for that matter, as you said, they own Bentley, they already have a high-priced sedan), so why ruin the brand's reputation as a high-performance machine with this thing?
