Actually, the demon is called 'Mephistopheles'...they shortened it for whatever reason. The albums 'Epica' and 'The Black Halo' go together as a storyline [Halo continues where Epica left off]. The storyline is a musical recreation of Faust, the famous work by Goethe in which a man is tempted into selling his soul (to, you guessed it, Mephistopheles). In the end, the demon is thwarted.

To answer the question of what it's about, Mephisto in old European literature was the name often given to a demon, or to Satan. Mephisto would play the role of a self-absorbed demonic figure who would tempt persons to come over to the dark side, so to speak, leading them into pacts with Satan and what not in exchange for something. That's what this song is about. Both Shagarath and Kahn represent different sides of Mephisto and speak for him.

well not all black metal bands are into Satan it's just a awesome genre and i doubt kamelot is rock they do have some metal in their sound, like it says on their myspace progressive/metal/rock they arent fully a rock group. i listen to "rock" i guess you can say just alternative rock and i listen to the "satanic" genre and death metal and to opera, and to gothic music, not all black metal bands support satan that's all i have to say

I agree with CallingCrowe,the guitarist is a bit sloppy,but the overall harmonics and chordings are great,and the drum beat overlay with the piano is not bad. The singer's voice can't quite get high enough for the hold,and uses less vibrato in this version which sounds better,but he's on que with the pitches non-live of course.
