Of the three you mentioned there I would personally say Lightwave. Max is really quirky and Blender just doesn't sit well with me. You might want to consider Maya though. I feel it is superior to the three you mentioned. Modeling in Maya is awesome, and animation and physics and rendering (with pixar renderman) is fantastic.

There's nothing "tight" about it. Nearly all of the better animators Ive worked with are self taught. Talent is always welcome. William Vaughan has posted dozens of great LW tutorials online. Get the Learning Edition and teach yourself. Get a decent reel together you can find work or at least intern.

Lightwave is an amazing software, and I thing is the Best. Is easy to use, the modeling system is also easy and the animation is powerful than before. The best thing I found in Lightwave is the Render, F9, FPrime and Kray. The radiosity with these renders is fast and High Quality. And the morph system is amazing. Have courage, my friend. The key to good modelling is observation and references. If you do plan to model a head, try to make a rough volume model first to give you the 'bulk' of the shape. Then model around it. Don't be afraid to make rough pre-versions to help you model, too. If you break things down to their basic shapes, things will become easier. Good Luck!

Aside from that, all the color schemes are Lightwave, the viewport grid is the standard perspective grid, there's no gizmo/manipulator, he's using dragnet which is a Lightwave trademark tool (not move with axis constraints Max-style), etc. I don't mean offense, but I don't think you have used Max or Lightwave to a great extent.

so far i have only used maya and lightwave, and to be honest they both have their issues and have a tendancy to fall on their faces. Cant say anything for 3dstudiomax however, but im guessing that it is also made by autodesk so i guess there might be some issues. Though i have to say, it sucks that lightwave has issues with outputting as quicktime movies and hads to be rendered as png then manually loaded into quicktime as a sequence an so on.

Lightwave is still in evolution, ask the hundreds who have given this product the toss as I have. Since version 4.3 the product has never (NEVER) been complete and could stand on its own with out some support from programme modifications. patches other vendors software, core revisions that made odsolete its prior functions....the list is endless.

X-2 was a great game. I must admit, it is quite different from X. The game play was REALLY different and the story was more happy and fun compared to X. But I liked that. I liked the story and it was a happy ending in the end (if you got a good or perfect ending). I think that's why they made a sequel to the game in the first place. Because of X's popularity and because the ending to that was so sad. Let's get real, we wanted to see Yuna and Tidus back together again somehow!

From what I hear Blender's interface is different from just about everything else. I've also heard several LW users who've used 3DS MAX talk about how much they dislike Max's interface. Of course, Max has a much larger presence in the games industry so if that's what you want to do it may be worth the time to learn.

not really. Its pretty straight forward. If your new to the whole modeling scene then ya you might need more time getting use to all the names and tool names and purposes and such. But I seem to learn LW pretty quick and easy I think. Using it for not even a month and never touched any other modeler except secondlife =D, I can already create photorealistic surfaces and simple objects, get great render results, make a scene and anim it, navigate LW pretty easy ect. Im a quick learner though.

idk maya still seems to be the better one for character anim in my opinion. I use LW tho. Once you master one program, using another program isnt that hard. Theres just a small adjustment getting use to the layout and menus and such...but sweet rigs! i only dream of this stuff one day :)

no man, in this rig maya bones are hidden, just need to hide LW bones too :) but the rigger wanted to show them because of the technique behind. And just for the record, softwares don´t rock, ANIMATORS DOES ! I use both of them.

HI khabchi, about your question, i would say that first you need to know that things far away will appear little bit blue caused by the atmosphere of the earth, if you look at some old oil paintings you d realize that the background is almost the same color as the sky. this is my own observation, it doesn't mean that is 100% correct but it works.

Well... there are some particular techincal setups that are harder to achieve in LW than in the likes of Maya, but of course othe CG apps have there own catalogue of disadvantages too! At the end of the day, a super-complex rig does not equal good animation (the opposite in fact is generally true). After all, there is still very little CG animation to match the charm and appeal of Cel or stop-motion animation. Overall - LightWave is just another great way to animate!
