i did that on purpose , but its not just a joke . History , archaeology and Ancient Greek literature all point to Ancient Egyptian and Mesopotamian major contributions to Classical Greek civilization . You can even find mythological alussions in such works as Homer's Iliad and Odessey to what the Ancients perceived as a continuity between Ancient Egypt and Pheonicia (btw this name comes from a Greek word meaning red or violet , they called themselves Canaanites)

Actually it's an eclipse cycle - eclipses tend to repeat in very similar patterns every 76 years, so the Greeks used this to predict when future eclipses would happen (they got the idea from Babylonian priest astronomers who had been observing eclipses for centuries because they saw them as evil omens). I've written a book about the mechanism if you're interested to know more - it's called Decoding the Heavens.

It would be very easy to design, but very heavy. If you made the end of every leg a hydraulic cylinder, and tied them all together, the fluid would be pushed from legs stepping onto higher surfaces, into legs that need the reach to get to a lower surface. The stroke of the cylinder would depend on the terrain. For rougher surfaces, you'd want to use longer cylinders. Air bladders would work too, but only to a certain length.

The male blanket octopus spends his existence drifting along waiting to meet with a female. If the male meets a female, he fills one of his tentacles with sperm and tears it from his body. He gives this sperm-filled tentacle to the female which she then uses to fertilize her eggs. Afterwards, the female leaves the male who floats away and dies.

And mb there is a difference in actual operation of the 'ouvre' if you follow it precisely and raise the crank axle to the specified height, I don't know. Hey, I checked out that vid you mentioned and it definitely appears that creation has the crank axle located higher than that of the 'hips'. However, that being said, my RC model walks pretty damn smoothly, and I have the crank axle on exactly the same plane as the 'hips' (See vid "Pastbot"). It could be that the specifics of each components' measurements on TJ's design have an envelope of flexibility, and while they are certainly all inter-related,contd...

contd..., as long as you alter them all in unison you will end up with a smooth motion. Also noteworthy on TJ's design: due to the length of the 'legs' I found my model became quite 'top-heavy' with motor/electronic components at crank axle level (my Vid will show you how I overcame that), and IMHO increasing the crank axle height on a motorized version will compound the balancing issues associated with a raised center of gravity. IE, when it stops/starts it will be prone to falling over.

If you watch his videos you'll see the crank is higher than the hips. Look at this video 'Theo Jansen Beach Beasts' at 1:32 you'll see it clearly. I have see a few flash animations and you can see that having the crank on the same level as the hips causes a slight up and down movement with each step. I just found a copy of his original design notes with all the dimensions if you are interested. Cheers

rhysfawr4, I googled more info on his design and found a paper describing all the dimensions he uses. The crank is set 7.8 units higher than the main leg pivots. He may have changed it, but I doubt it. Contact me and I'll send you a copy. I'm going to make a model of his mechanism when I get the time. Cheers

The crank should be set higher than the "hips" of the legs. This is a common error in copied designs. Have a look at videos of Theo's and you'll see the crank is not on the same plane as the hips. The actual dimension is 7.8 units higher.

Why? Why is the belief in god more comfortable? The myth offers nothing other than to devalue you, assuming your almost arbitrary choice of god was the correct one. I would imagine that the look on her face was actually because questions about her beliefs may have forced her to critically think about them. Of course, even the consideration that her god not existing would be sinful, so she starts to panic, ignores the possibility that she has been wasting her life and gets defensive.

I'm sorry, but the shocked look on the girls face was not some sort of affirmation that her belief is a lie, it was a kind of love that only religious people know and I'm not trying to say that religious people are better. Thank you--I just put it together for my first class video project. And the footage from 6:42-6:48 is from a DVD called The Animatrix, which is 9 short films written by the directors of The Matrix trilogy meant to supplement the trilogy itself. From 7:05-7:35, the footage is actually from the DVD that accompanies the This Binary Universe album. The whole DVD is quite amazing and you should check it out. Thanks again!
