last week i was doing pirouettes in class and we were partnering and my teacher put pirouettes in the combination...the combination was: Developpe, turn, pirouette, tombe pas de bourre grand jete arabesque chasse antralasse and then my partner was supposed to catch me and he didn't in fact i fell right on my ass. then the show was yesterday i was doing that in our dance show and he finally CAUGHT ME!!!!! i was sooo happy that i didn't fall on my ass that time!! :)

Just because you did that many pirouettes doesn't mean you did them right. Theres a lot to think about when doing them and when you start to do them right..Its really hard, and more than just turning on one foot. =]

She shames this male dancer. If you see some of the vintage videos here on youtube with her and her tsarist teachers, you will see why. She is a product of a long and illustrious tradition. Tis is why she sooo outshines this young man. In the grand ballet there is nooo substitute for age and experience. NONE!! Thank you for posting this. I saw her at the ballet in the audience so many times when she was a child. Even then she looked like a perfect little ballerina, and she was such a sweet little girl. I'm just overjoyed to see her and how she turned out.

I do not think her turns are ugly, but they are gymnastics turns, not ballet turns. There was absolutely no mention of turning out the leg that is in cannot spell it in french, but a leg facing forward is not a classical piruoutte

You just gotta keep trying....I'm not very good but I was proud of myself for doing four in a row yesterday. It's very frustrating..especially since I've never been trained and I'm not exactly young anymore but it will pay off if you keep trying.

i was just like you, so what i did at home was lift my leg up on my owb 90 degrees. try holding it there as long as you can and it will pay off in about a week or two if you do it everyday...now it did help on fouttes, but not really on pirouttes, for that, mark a piroutte on releve, stand straight, shoulders back, and that helps! good luck!

well just saying, when you do a pirouette, you think of driving down with the bottom leg. thats what makes you do more [besides spotting and stuff] and shes a professional and im pretty sure she turning out her leg. and spotting and the arms do matter. if there all over the place and not held, you will be all over the place...

when you turn, go straight up. think of ending the pirouette up also instead of in fifth. remember to turn your passe knee out too, and spot. hold your center strong and dont let it go or else you will fall backwards. also make sure you bring your back around in one piece. the arms dont matter at all, its your back. if you need any other tips just ask me. i will be happy to help

Glad the video helped you, but to answer your question, yes, dancers do have to wear tights, so that the teacher can see their bodies and correct them properly. Also, dancers perform in tights, once again so that the whole body can be seen. I happen to be wearing short tights in this video simply because it is summer and it is hot out.

But little do people know, ballet IS physics...ballet is always finding ways to defy gravity, weight, and balance, but use of muscles.
