But the competition for proper musicians is so much stiffer, it's both competing with computer-based producers, and trying to inspire an audience who is always going to be convinced "they like what they like". It's rehashed music (guitar hero, iTunes, melodyne) with all it's technical, jaw-dropping aspects vs. live, organic music, which is never perfect and ultimately gives the audience less feeling of control and satisfaction, if that's what they want. If anything, we have no standards.

Saying "its the end of musicianship" is such a typical knee-jerk reaction. If anything, it's going to stimulate more growth and interest in the next generation of musicians. The "here comes the end" bemoaning has been heard for decades...most recently, when computer-based recording began to take over. There simply will never be an "end" to proper musicianship, so long as there are individuals who are driven to excel at their chosen instrument.

That actually WAS a serious question. You perhaps could have answered, say: considering the tech limitations of YouTube, I'd cut out a little (say 2 dB) at 3 Khz (medium Q), and perhaps bring in a little high end: shelving, around 6.5 Khz. I'd also cut out a little bottom end, say Hi pass at 120 Hz. I'd also add de-esser to make it sound less hissy. I'm making up this stuff - none of this is really necessary in a YouTube vid, but the values and names I provided should give you a hint.

Yeah, they are selling their stuff, but I have seen and heard a lot worse. I think this is a fantastic plugin. Sure, it won't work well in all situations (like a choir or live strings with lots of unison harmonic beating) but I think this is the right step into the future. Imagine years from now the first de-mixer, where software can actually isolate instruments from a stereo (or even mono) mix. Still decades away (if at all) but we are getting there...

Im a total noob...so here comes the stupid question. How do you get that four string bass sounding like a six string being played lead? Shreaded at that? awesome. What did you do ? Im light years beyond this kind of thing, but I always dreamed of bringing the bass to the foreground instead of it being a repetitive background drone as in so many bands.

Hey - thanks for your compliment.Well, they are hard to compare.The Steinberger is great for travelling, doesnt get out of tune and is humidity proof.The Nobby sounds a little better, but is wooden. So you have the typical dillemma. I love them both. I play 0.35 - 0.95 strings on the Nobby and 0.45.- 1.05 on the Steinberger.Yeah - i have got a lot of basses, just bought my old Fender Jazz Bass from 1967 back, i sold it twenty years ago, to buy a Steinberger. Thats ironic, isnt it ?

First of all: YOU KICK MAJOR ASS! What you are doing is just so ridiculously cool! I have a question. How does the Nobby Meidel Warwick compare to the Steinberger? I've owned 2 fretted Steinberger XL2s but they just never gave me that true bass tone you get from wood. I still liked them a lot but they were too sterile sounding for me and I sold both of them. Now I want another one of course!!! The bass players dilemma: one bass is NEVER enough!

Lucky for you. Well I've since bought an EHX Memory Man Hazarai, and the ReelEcho isn't SO cheap or as easy to obtain here in Europe. Anyways, I'll get it fixed, but more hands on with a local tech(last time I had to send it to a different city to get the job done, they sat on it for a month), so I don't have to wait and pay too much for a single soldering should it happen again. It's a nice pedal but it's more a flavour than indisposable gear for me. Thanks for the reply though.

I don't think the sound-on-sound is an interesting feature, so I won't demo it. There's not much to demonstrate anyway. You can record a loop with it. Sounds fun, but the maximum loop time is 1,5 second. And it's not done by just holding the button, you have to change settings...

I really like this, and I own one, but it's died twice already... first time I had it repaired, but After a while it quit adding any effect again. First time round it was some connection/soldering problem near the output, I hope it's simple as that this time too. I like the limited and easily controllable nature and really love the cranked sound you get at ultrashort delay settings with many repeats

You're right, but allthough this is supposed to emulate a tape-delay, I've always seen it as a good analog delay. the beauty is in the high roll-off filter. what do you mean with "max out the signal"? if you max the mix, you take out the dry signal. If you max the repeats, you get a nice overload....

I thought that when using a vintage tape delay with a slider like this one emulates, you don't get pitch shifts anyway because you are just changing the position of the tape head rather than changing the speed of the tape. however do educate me if I am wrong :) Looking into buying one of these, what happens when you max out the signal? does it do that annoying digital nasty-sounding clipping?
