I went there at night with 3 friends about 5-6 years ago. Everything was fine until they wanted to see the basement. While walking towards the entrance I heard in an unhuman voice "GET OUT" beckon from the woods. No one else head it but I pleaded we leave. I felt something was really wrong. Mary's Tower was built in the 1960s by two brothers from Brooklyn who had no clue how to build in a swampy area (it's swampy back there) and after it kept flooding, abandoned it. Property values were zip at the time. There was no Mary, no ghost - all that is just made up. It was torn down last summer after neighbors got tired of calling the cops about trespassers and the property owner got tired of hearing of the complaints.

In the 1950s, an advertisement for boat insurance from "A. M. Blanche" of Philadelphia was painted on the bow section, of which much was still visible until the 1980s, when it completely rolled over and sank. One of the concrete ships shattered "like plate glass" when it was rammed by an errant tugboat in the 1920s. Another is a small hotel somewhere in or around Cuba; and about 2 dozen are now in use as breakwaters.

You should see the carnage from the bumper cars at the PNE here in Vancouver, BC when I get behind the wheel of a good car that isn't worn out. Yes, u did see me doing that. As for driving the kids is a whole different story. i have been doing the bus thing for 19 years in the same town. ( that must say something) not 1 complaint nor problem with any parent. they may be afraid the first day or 2 but after that they would not have it any other way. S o I hope to keep doing both for a very long time because iLOVE DOING THE BUS THING. It is also a treat to see kids i drove their first day of school and see them graduate.

I'm homesick...moved to AZ from NJ a year ago, and have only visited three times since. Went to Keansburg every year with day camp, used to visit "Sleaze-side" with the family when it was still plain old Seaside Hts. (stayed in Seaside Park though). I've been a Wildwood Crester for nearly 20 years now, and was lucky enough to include that in this past summer's visit. Already got next year booked!

Theres a place just like this by where I live, people call it gates of hell too. People say all sorts of things happen in there like animal sacrifice, satanic masses even neo-nazi meetings. People describe it as being like this one: its miles deep, has rooms and all sorts of things. Been in there once, it was Erie because it is dead silent in there not a noise. Every 200 meters or so it forks it does it about 3 times and its in the desert so I have no idea here half of the tunnels in it end up.

Dear WNJ - A friend who is knowledgeable about aircraft pegged this as an F101 but several pilots had their own ideas: a F101c super voodoo, a F80/P80 Shooting Stat or a F89J. The F89 Scorpion and the T33 each got two votes, but the T2v/T1A Seastar got 4 votes. I discovered that it is actually a T-2V1 beause that's what stamped under the wing. Dear WNJ: As an airplane nut I couldnt help but notice the mis-identification of the jet in the woods on page 39 of issue #30. The aircraft is not an F-89 and for that matter isnt even a U.S.Air Force plane. If you look at it you can read the serial number on the tail as well as Marines on the rear fuselage. The plane is a 14-2540 and it is a T2V-1 Seastar also know as a T-1A Trainer. I also read that this plane went down on 1/1/67 but cannot confirm that date. -Jim Nissen, Grants Pass, OR

I know all of you say to yourselves "Why can't these just leave us kids alone?" But you need to realize that when you go up there to walk around, you are, in fact walking all over their insurance. If some kid goes up there, falls, and breaks a limb then his parents will sue the town...(naturally). Besides, not everyone would like to go up there and explore like most of you. When I was a kid that place was abandoned but the trees surrounding it were smaller and you could see it from the road around Revene lake. I would take dates there and yunno... I used to work right next door at the sister mansion which used to be Kate Macey Ladd Convalescent home. I think some King bought it. Those places are unreal and really something to see.

I got an informal tour of that mansion once back in 1997. Pretty amazing on the inside, but also a little odd, like quirky 1960s furniture and TVs the nuns used. The bathrooms seemed oddly plain too. The sconces on the walls of the main hallway were cool, gloved (knights)hands holding lamps. The scariest thing about the mansion in the 1980s, were the angry nuns that would chase you away if you were spotted on the property. There are several enormous old mansions in that part of NJ.

No, that was a one of a kind adventure. The tour company wanted us to keep doing it, but the only way we could pull it off was if nobody (including the driver) knew where we would be going ahead of time. If somebody had found out where we were headed that day we would have been ambushed by law enforcement for sure! Then we'd probably be riding on a white school bus wearing bright orange jumpsuits and carrying garbage bags.
