I totally agree (I'm also an instructor). I really can't see a beginner learning anything from this, I literally laughed out loud when he said to go straight into the front strap and then the back foot was way off the centre line. I guess we have to keep in mind it is several years old now, times have changed.

well, its just a board, not a boat, and the boards stay afloat on their own whether they are up or down, or any direction. if you fall over with the feet straps, and you cant get the sail in a position to pull you back up, you just pull your feet out of the straps and tip the board right side up. i've never had feet straps, though, so i'm not an expert. actually, i'm not an expert on windsurfing alltogether, but thats just the basic idea.

Also, in reviewing the video again, I notice that the hydrofoil is placed far aft of the center of gravity, so I would suspect that the a great deal of the sail energy is lost by the hydrofoil needing to create gobs of extra lift to counter act the board/sail/rider's weight well forward of the hydrofoil. I know the sail generates some vertical lift, but I suspect not nearly enough to counteract the placement of the hydrofoil. Other thoughts?

Bigger picture!?!?! this is the Perito Moreno, it moves 2 meters a day cutting the lake "Lago Argentino" in 2 and it creates a natural dam. Eventually the water crosses from one side to the other throught the gralcier creating boves that eventually collapses and that is what you are seeing. (it is estimated that this glacier has not changed its mass in the last 500 to 1000 years).
