Some asshole ran across the highway going over the Quechee Gorge (Vermont) with a car coming at him at 50 mph. So the first car slammed his brakes, barely missing the asshole pedestrian, the car after that slams his brakes; then I do, going from 50 to 0 in a second, with my wheels 15 degrees off the road (all passengers screamed OH SHIT!). Well, Gath. Thanks so much for the explanation b/c I just couldn't fathom why anyone would ever call Def Leppard pop. I do listen to some pop, and like some of the pop artists. But never in a million years would I have ever considered Def Leppard to be pop. I guess everyone's intitled to an opinion, but it sounds silly to me. I'm sure discrimination does exist, but at the bank I work for the President/CEO is a black Harvard law graduate and there are highly accomplished black employees at every level. That was certainly not the case when I started my career. A big problem still exists relative to the quality of the schools in the inner-city, but that's a topic for discussion that could go on forever.

I'm sure you're right about the percentage of white America that was racist in Elvis' day. And yes, the whites who covered the black artists' songs made lots of money, but when the original music was discovered a bit later, many of the black singers did pretty well (unless they were hoodwinked into signing bad contracts, which was quite common). Gradually, the music of black artists made its way onto mainstream radio. It is true, this happened very slowly, and we had to put up with such garbage as Pat Boone's versions of Little Richard's songs.
