This dance was the one that made me start taking contemporary. It's Genius. There is almost no technique at all, and yet it is so touching, and amazing. I love the very begining and the section at :34 is GENIUS!! I love Mia Michaels.

luvrdance...I do apologize for deeming you "an idiot". I have no place to pass judgment on anyone. I'm sorry for that. However, you are pretty much belittling what the choreographer and dancers are doing in this piece. It may NOT be the best representation of contemporary dance. I don't believe anyone is saying that here. They're just expressing their love for this PARTICULAR dance. And for someone to attack their love for something is very demeaning and rude.

And about the expert thing. Most people will like most hollywood movies. And i mean really like them. But do these hollywood movies add anything to the history of filmaking? Most of them don't. This dance, even the whole show, is just another outlet of consumerism. People get brainwashed. Experts are here to keep a badly designed choreography and performance like in this video apart from the real dance scene.

I love dance and i also love to watch contemporary pieces but this is just way overrated. It really alienates me to see how many people are touched by this video on youtube. If you do have emotions, and art touches you... support the theaters way better stuff there.

luvrdance...you're an idiot. Dance isn't about being "technical" anymore. Someone can walk around a stage for 5 minutes to one note on the piano and it can be called "dance". Dancing is about the affect if has on the audience and what it evokes in them. This Mia Michaels routine is thought provoking, has a story and moves people. Just because you're more than likely used to "one and two and heel extension" doesn't mean you can criticize someone else's art.

This is really awkward. To the untrained eye it looks very intense and difficult. However it's really nothing. The whole piece is not together, it's just a bit of running around and making some "contemp moves". The pretentious dancing doesn't fit to the simple sounds and lyrics of the background song. This is really a disgrace to dancing and there are alot better contemp dances on youtube. If you find this to have "meaning": check yourself.
